Working Groups

In addition to specializing in general planning and management services, P:N has several spheres of expertise, including social and community-based planning, community health, gender and development and environment and resource management. In order to best make use of complementary areas of knowledge, P:N has four working groups: These groups represent smaller teams within our roster of consultants. Group members share specific interests and expertise in a particular sector.

Program/Project Planning and Management Group

P:N's core has always been a group of experienced professionals who provide a range of services designed to strengthen and enhance the capabilities of government, non-government and private sector organizations. Services include program and project policy formulation, planning, evaluation, and monitoring. P:N's consultants also engage in project management, and internal capacity building.

Led by Stan Benjamin, this group is composed of the firm's senior principals and consultants. Since 1984 it has provided a wide range of services to both national and international organizations of varying sizes and sectoral interests.

Community Health Group

The Community Health Group (CHG) comprises professionals engaged in health planning, management and evaluation under the P:N umbrella. Collectively, the CHG's experience encompasses: acute and community health nursing, community mental health programming and practice, health system management, health professional education, organizational coaching and strategic planning. The CHG works with clients to foster effective programming and management in community health. Within the field of health, the CHG offers specialized services in policy analysis and development, program/project planning and management, as well as project monitoring, evaluation, design and implementation.

Current CHG members include: Mariann Befus, Philip Cox, Louise Griep, Alice Purdey and Dr. Sheila Robinson. Please click here to learn more about our consultants.

Performance Management Training Group

PLAN:NET consultants have a great deal of experience teaching Results Based Management (RBM), also known as Outcome Measurement, to non-governmental organizations and government agencies. PLAN:NET Directors Philip Cox and Sheila Robinson have developed an innovative technique using the SPLASH AND RIPPLE metaphor to convey the fundamentals of RBM. P:N associates use a mix of conventional briefing materials and the application of more participatory learning techniques to help organizations learn to use RBM as both an accountability and planning tool. The output of such workshops generally includes a new or revised outcome measurement framework, which can then be used for planning, reporting, proposal writing and ongoing self-assessment.

To date, our consultants have delivered more than 40 such trainings to participants of more than 300 non-profit organizations, university teams, and government departments/agencies.

Current Performance Management Training Group members include: Mariann Befus, Steve Brewster, Molly Buckley, Kathy Coyne, Philip Cox, Louise Griep, Murray Luft, John Marczyk, Alice Purdey, Dr. Sheila Robinson, Jeff Sommers and Bava Wadhwa. PLAN:NET has Performance Management consultants in Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa and Victoria.

Community and Environment Group

Within the field of Environment and Resources Planning and Management, the Community and Environment Group (CEG) emphasizes three major themes in all of its work:
  • Integration of ecological, social and economic dimensions in planning management and impact assessment
  • Use of resource management approaches (e.g. watershed-based management) and sustainable community models
  • Emphasis on community-based participatory techniques (e.g. PRA and Gender Analysis)
The CEG has developed a methodology to facilitate Community Participation in more traditional environmental projects. Our community participation approach promotes community awareness of issues as well as a commitment to, and capacity for, local involvement in environmental project planning and management.

Current CEG members include: Noel Keough, John Marczyk, Bruce Smedley, and Bava Wadhwa. Please click here to learn more about our consultants.
