Dr. Brian W. Unger is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary, and President of the River Run Collaboratory Ltd.

Brian was founder, Past President & CEO of Cybera Inc., an NFP company aimed at fostering e-science and cyberinfrastructure within Alberta; Board member (1994-2010); Past Chair and Member of Cybera’s International Strategic Advisory Committee (2008-2010). www.cybera.ca

He was Special Advisor of the “Informatics for Rural Empowerment and Community Health (iREACH), an ICT4D project of IDRC Canada and the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce (2004-2010). https://pancambodia.net/iREACH/index.php

Dr. Unger was Founding President, CEO & Board Member of the “informatics circle of research excellence” iCORE (1999-2004). Other Selected Board Activities include: Chair, Ontario Research Fund (ORF) ICT-DM Peer Review Panel (2014), Member ORF ICT Review Panel (2016, 2011 & 2009); Advisory Board of the IIT, NRC (2001-2007); Member, MSREC Advisory Board (Modeling & Simulation in Research & Education), Georgia Institute of Technology (2000-2006); Member & Chair: IT Venture Capital Selection Committee, InnoCentre (2002-2005).

He was named a Canada Pioneer of Computing at the IBM CASCON conference, Toronto, 2005; he received the CANARIE IWAY Public Leadership award for outstanding contributions to Canada’s information society in 2004; and the 1993 ASTech award for “Innovation in Alberta Technology” for research in parallel simulation and distributed computation.
